ODIHAM'S Alex Danson and the Great Britain Ladies hockey team are well on the way to booking a quarter-final place in the World League semi-finals in Valencia.

A top three place in the tournament is the aim for the British girls which would book them a place at the Rio Olympics next year.

GB opened their World League campaign with a 2-0 win over hosts Spain thanks to a penalty stroke from Danson and the first international goal from Joie Leigh.

This was followed up on Saturday by another 2-0 win against Argentina in this game Danson missed a penalty stroke, but goals from Hannah Macleod and Sophie Bray made sure of the team's first win over their South American rivals since 1996.

GB made it three wins out of three 24 hours later, as Danson opened the scoring and further strikes from Georgie Twigg and a brace from Bray made sure of a 4-2 victory over Canada.

The goal for Danson means she is now the second highest GB women goal scorer with 35 and only Jane Sixsmith (53) has scored more.

Talking after the game Danson said: "We have set out stall out in this tournament to take one game at a time we've done the job so far and got the points."

GB complete their pool games when they face China tomorrow at 2pm.
