JAMIE Fry will travel to Copenhagen this weekend for the Crossfit Games Regional finals as the top 30 competitors from Europe and the top 10 from Africa go head-to-head.

The 20-year-old from Chineham is delighted to have made it to this stage of the competition, having booked his place with a fifth-place finish in the British heat in Manchester earlier this year.

That was Fry’s first-ever competition and he only took up the sport of Crossfit, which consists of seven gruelling events over three days, two years ago.

Fry is one of the youngest competitors in the field and is looking forward to the experience.

Fry said: “This is my first year of competition, so I am just pleased to have got this far. I know I am not going to win as there are guys with a lot more experience than me.

“It’s matter of learning as much as I can for the future, but I would like to finish in the top 30 and if I can get a top 10 finish in an event that would be nice.”

His favourite event is the 250-feet handstand walk and he is hoping to improve on his time of 1min 38seconds he achieved in Manchester.

This is the fourth event on Saturday, coming just after an event that comprises a one-mile run, followed by 50 overhead squats, 100 sit-ups, 150 double-unders, 50 sumo deadlift high pulls and 100 box jump overs.

It will certainly be a gruelling weekend for him as other events include rope climbs and weightlifting challenges that will test the athletes to the full.

Fry trains at Crossfit Blockhouse gym in Andover and said: “I am very grateful to Crossfit Blockhouse for sponsoring me. They they have made it possible for me to compete by paying for me to travel out there.”
