VINE Pony Club members Georgia Bartlett and Poppy de Groot achieved an outstanding double victory in the British Eventing One Day Event at Aston-le-Walls, in Northamptonshire.

Bartlett (13) won her BE100 section on Munro Highlander and de Groot (18) was the BE100 Open section winner on Spot On XII. Competing against professional adult riders, as well as other amateurs, both recorded excellent dressage scores before producing clear rounds in the cross country and showjumping phases.

Bartlett was especially delighted with the performance of her pony and said: “I have been working hard with the instructors Matt Hicks (dressage), Sharon Quant (show jumping) and Kirsty Johnston (cross country) at the Vine Pony Club and this result shows it is definitely paying off."

De Groot said: “It was a tremendous achievement to have two members of the Vine Pony Club winning at the first event of the season. “Matt and Sharon have both been incredibly supportive and encourag-ing in their training. Their guidance has been invaluable.

“We look forward to the forthcom-ing weeks and months with much excitement.”

The Vine Pony Club covers an area from north Basingstoke to south of Newbury and has over 100 members.

Matt Hicks is an international dressage rider at the Hurstbourne Equestrian Centre.

Sharon Quant is a top class show jumping trainer and has recently taken over the April Farm Stud in Ashford Hill, while Kirsty Johnston is an international event rider based near Salisbury.
