BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club’s ladies’ second team kept alive their double-winning hopes, after a resounding 7-1 thrashing of Hamble in the Hampshire Trophy semi-final.

The Hampshire Division Two champions showed no mercy to the visitors, as Becky Donald-son soon them an early lead.

Bev Mackay smashed in the second, before Gilly Dunning slotted home a well-worked short corner for a 3-0 advantage inside the first 15 minutes.

Dunning and Mackay, with their second goals of the game, made it 5-0 at half-time.

After the break, the ladies added two more goals through Laura Marks and Helen Hornsby, before Hamble netted a late consolation goal.

Basingstoke will now travel to Haslemere on Monday, May 4 for the final.

The ladies’ first team faced a tough task against visiting South Division One side Havant in their Hampshire Cup semi-final.

Havant took the lead early in the second half, but Fi Parker levelled things with a short corner rebound.

However, the visitors scored three quick goals to win the tie 4-1.

Basingstoke men’s first team wrapped up their league campaign with a great comeback as they won 6-5 at Chichester.

The visitors, who trailed 5-3 with 10 minutes remaining, grabbed the winner with 30 seconds left.

The victory saw the men finish their first season in Hants/Surrey One in fourth place. They were unbeaten in their last 10 games.

Next week, the men are in Hampshire Cup action against National Conference side Fareham, who are the toughest team left in the competition.
