BASINGSTOKE Chess Club look set to be relegated from Berkshire League Division One after suffering defeat in their basement battle with Camberley B.
Basingstoke got off to a good start with a quick win by Roy Ashmore, but they could only add a draw to their tally from Bernard Cooke, losing 4.5-1.5.
Four Basingstoke players – Ewart Smith, Tim Chapman, Roy Ashmore and Barry Kocan – represented Hampshire in their 11-5 defeat to Oxfordshire in the Chiltern County League.
