JESSICA Sutton opened 2015 in fine style, finishing second at the Dubai leg of the Biathle World Series.

The 14-year-old continues to go from strength to strength in the various modern pentathlon disciplines.

She has moved up to the under-17 category and, as a member of the English talent programme, competed in the Great Britain Youth B ranking competition.

She was 16th after the swim and had an excellent run and shoot in the combined event, with the eighth best result overall, moving her up to finish in a creditable 12th place.

After recording some excellent run and shoot times, Sutton, from Hatch Warren, was selected for the youth international in Solihull. She helped Great Britain to a team bronze medal after she came eighth overall, having finished sixth in the run and shoot.

She is now ranked eighth in the Great Britain under-17 rankings Older brother Bradley Sutton has joined the elite sports programme at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire, which is headed by former England rugby captain Phil de Glanville.

He is a member of Hartpury’s Modern Pentathlon Academy and trains 25 hours a week at show jumping, running, fencing, swimming, and shooting.

Sutton’s winter training included two trips to Hungary, where he trained with the elite Hungarian modern pentathlon squad, and he also competed in the Hungarian Open competition.

The 16-year-old was 10th in the under-19 Modern Pentathlon Tetrathlon International in Solihull, helping Great Britain to a bronze medal in the team event.

He then competed in the West Midlands Triathlon Championships, which is a national qualifier, finishing an excellent second.

He is set to attend various domestic competitions to qualify for the European Championships in Turkey and the World Tour Biathle competition series.
