THE BASINGSTOKE and District Badminton League Restricted Tournament held at Costello School proved to be a great success.

The men’s draw consisted of 10 pairs split into two groups, with games played to 21 points.

Group A was topped by Peter Bevell/Simon Williamson, who won all of their games to finish on a maximum of 84 points and were closely followed by Graham Woodrow/Kevin Scarpe on 83.

The rest of the group was made up of Khem Limbu/Vince Yong, Nithin Veeraarasu/Arjun Karnad and Ramsay Domoge/John Brookes.

In Group B, Neil Atkins/Dan Sheppard recovered from a first match loss to top their group with 79 points and were followed by Michael Nash/Ilya Goldberg on 77 points.

Robert Jackson/Keith Miles, Mikey Marx/Paul Branch and Gina Rapacioli/Katie Woods made up the rest of the group.

The first semi-final was between Bevell/Williamson and Nash/Goldberg and was closely contested, with Bevell/Williamson pulling back a number of points, but Nash/Goldberg ended up on top winning 21-16.

The second semi-final saw Woodrow/Scarpe beat Atkins/Sheppard 21-16.

The final was a very entertaining game, with Woodrow/Scrape finishing strongly to beat Nash/ Goldberg 21-20 after a great final rally.

The mixed draw consisted of nine pairs split into two groups, with games played to 21 points.

Group A was comprised of five pairs, with Fiona and Neil Atkins coming top with a maximum of 84 points.

Jan MacDonald/Andrew Mountford and Vanessa Hall/Ray Chow both finished on 78 points, with MacDonald/Mountford taking second spot on countback.

The other two pairs in the group were Chris-Louise Estrada/Arjun Karnad and Ali Hodgetts/Ramsay Domoge.

Group B was topped by Gina Rapacioli/Peter Bevell with a maximum of 63 points, with Jane and Michael Nash second with 55 points.

Becky Stracker/Jon Brooks were third with Cathryn Perkins/ Dan Sheppard fourth.

The first semi-final between Fiona and Neil Atkins and Jane and Michael Nash was a closely-fought match with Atkins/Atkins eventually coming through to win 21-19.

The second semi-final, contested by Jan MacDonald/ Andrew Mountford and Gina Rapacioli/Peter Bevell, finished 21-17 after a good final push from Rapacioli/Bevell.

The final was a rematch of last year’s Basingstoke Open final between Atkins/Atkins and Rapacioli/Bevell.

It was a close game, but Rapacioli/Bevell won 21-16 to claim the title.
