TABLE Tennis players from St Mary’s Junior School, Old Basing, completed a winning double as Jamie Frazer and Anaya Patel won the Basingstoke singles titles.

Both players won their trophies at the tournament at Costello School and were joined at the county finals at Testwood School, in Totton, by Edward Marks, who was runner-up to Frazer.

At the county event, Frazer and Marks made it through to the last eight before they were knocked out, while Patel finished with a silver medal.

The 10-year-old from Lychpit won all of her games without dropping a set to reach the final. Unfortunately, Patel came up against number one seed Jasmine Williams from Portsmouth. Patel took the first two sets, but Williams showed her experience to take the win.

Patel enjoyed more success in her first ranking tournament at Cirencester as she picked up another silver medal, being beaten by Devon’s Holly Smithson in the final.

The following week, the 10-year-old travelled to Plymouth and competed in the under-11 and under-13 singles event.

In the under-11 tournament, Patel reached the semi-final before going down in the fifth set.

She then went one better in the under-13 event, despite being up against girls ranked in the top 50.

Patel once again lost out to Devon’s Smithson in the final.

The 10-year-old is now preparing for a under-11 and under-12 national regional qualifier at Cippenham Table Tennis Centre in Slough.
