BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club men’s team hit a magnificent seven goals as they won 7-3 at Hamble to keep the pressure on third-placed Epsom in Hampshire Surrey Regional One.

The first half was an even encounter as Dean Record opened the scoring with a reverse stick effort, but Hamble quickly equalised.

Basingstoke re-took the lead through Jed Mills, but the home side made sure things were level at the break.

The second half started in disastrous fashion for Basingstoke as they gave away a penalty flick, which was converted.

This fired up the visitors, who scored five goals without reply as Record netted three to take his tally to four for the game, while Mills got a second and Ben Jubin also got on the scoresheet.

The second team were left heartbroken as they lost at home to Southampton University, with the winning goal coming five minutes from time.

The men’s third and fourth teams both effectively saw their hopes of promotion ended as the thirds drew 2-2 at Salisbury and the fourths lost 3-1 away at Blandford.

The fifths shared the spoils at home to Hamble after a 1-1 draw.

The ladies came back from a goal down to win 7-2 at Horsham as Roxy O’Dea scored a hat-trick, Annalise Whitehead netted a brace and there were single strikes from Catriona Bausor and Fiona Parker.

The second team played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Trojans.

Basingstoke opened the scoring as they forced a penalty-corner, which Sarah Mainprise converted, and the home side equalised, also from a penalty-corner.

The following day in the Hampshire Trophy, the second team pulled off a dramatic quarter-final victory as they won at Fareham II after penalty flicks.

Helen Hornsby scored the winner after Mainprise, Tanya Finch, Gilly Dunning had all slotted past the home goalie.

Earlier in the game, goalkeeper and captain Nicky Ball did well to keep out two well-worked short corners from Fareham, before Basingstoke scored from their own short corner, which Dunning dispatched.

The home equalised after the break following a goal line scramble.
