ALDWORTH School’s girls basketball teams enhanced their reputation as the top school in Hampshire by reaching three county cup finals and winning two.

In all three finals they were matched against Winchester’s Kings’ School.

In the Hampshire Schools Under-16 Girls Cup final, played at Aldworth School, the Basingstoke girls took full advantage of the home court.

The previous meeting between the teams in last year’s cup final had been a close affair and Aldworth were in no mood to let this happen again.

Playing strong, well organised defence, the home team restricted Kings’ to 10 points in the first half, while scoring 28 themselves.

Although the second half was closer, Aldworth still out-scored their illustrious opponents to become Hampshire champions thanks to a 45-19 victory.

Aldworth won the toss for home court advantage in the under-14 cup final.

The athleticism of the Aldworth girls enabled them to play a fast break, high tempo, pressing game that Kings’ were unable to match.

By half-time, Aldworth had built up a 24-point advantage as they led 40-16.

Although Kings’ battled bravely to the end, they were unable to break down the home team’s resolute defence and Aldworth continued to score freely to record a comfortable 79-33 win.

The under-15 cup final was played at Kings’ School, Winchester.

Aldworth found the going tough from the outset. They missed shots against a robust defence and the Winchester side led 29-20 at half-time.

A poor third quarter by the visitors saw the home side build a commanding lead.

The visitors reduced the deficit in the last quarter, but Kings’ still ran out worthy winners 49-32.
