BISHOP Challoner Secondary School won the Sporting School (Secondary) award for the first time since 2008, beating off competition from The Vyne Community School.

Head of PE Chris Sheers was delighted to have regained the school’s crown and said: “It is nice for all the hard work of both the staff and pupils to be recognised.

“I have a great team at the school and everyone is very enthusiastic about sport.”

St Martin’s Church of England Primary School, in East Woodhay, won their first-ever award in Sporting School (Primary) category as three-time winners St Mary’s Church of England Primary School had to settle for second place.

Headteacher Peter Shelton said: “I am really proud and it is beyond my wildest dreams to win this award.

“We are a small school which is punching above its weight, but we have won county finals.”
