ADVENTURE AS did proper fishing on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Crofton last Sunday, where match secretary Nick Sargent struck a bream goldmine.

In an hour’s purple patch, he put 27lb 14oz of skimmers in the net on pole chopped worm and caster, but for the other four hours of the competition, he was biteless.

Graham Hathaway took second place with 8lb 10oz, four bream on the feeder and worm. Alan Chadbone’s 5lb 15oz of skimmers was a pole and worm affair, while Dave Butler came next on 5lb 14oz.

Sixteen fished and all caught.

Kennet Ospreys went to Billhook for their latest fixture and match secretary André Grandjean won it with 25lb 14oz of carp and bream on pole and red maggot.

Simon (The God) Kiefer caught one carp and bream late on using pole and maggot to weigh 14lb 10oz. Ian Jones came next with 13lb 12oz, two carp and bits, followed by Simon Couling on 13lb.

Sixteen fished and caught.

Camrose AC took themselves to Cheriton Farm and in an absolute grueller of a match, Colin Ariss topped out with 1lb 9oz of bits on pole and maggot.

Les Partridge flew into second place with 9.5oz of gudgeon. Pete Morris was third with 9oz, followed by Ralph Sneddon’s 8.5oz.

Nine fished and four blanked.

Stacey’s match group were at Soke Road last Sunday, where Paul Follington took the honours with 9lb 10oz, two carp on pole and maggot from the margins.

Keith Brown’s one tench and bits on pole, worm and maggot gave him second place with 5lb 14oz. Steve Davis caught two bream and bits on pole and pinkie for his 5lb 10oz, while Tadley Angling’s Kevin Roberts moaned his way to one tench and one bream for an even 5lb.

Nine fished and caught.

Adventure’s match at Court Farm saw Dave Stratford-Way win with 83lb 6oz of carp on pole and pellet.

Sean Shiles came second with 74lb 8oz of carp on pole and corn. Graham Shadwell’s 67lb 8oz made third, followed by Dave Sexton with 64lb 14oz.

Twenty-two fished and caught.

Kennet Ospreys’ match at Greenridge Farm put Neil Shepherd in top spot with 37lb of carp on pole and mag.

Peter Newman made second with 21lb of carp on pole and mag. Terry Bowles caught 17lb 2oz for third, followed by Ray Shepherd’s 14lb 2oz.

Sixteen fished and not all caught.

Last week’s Camrose AC match at New Barlows saw Bill Atkinson win with 4lb 13oz of mixed on pole and maggot. Pip Seeny was next with 3lb 6oz. Paul Hunt’s 2lb 13oz made third, followed by Rob Frost’s 1lb 13oz.

Ten fished and caught.

I’m back from Tenerife, where I enjoyed 3.5 hours of sunshine in seven days. ‘Er indoors is not happy.
