LODDON Vale's men have moved into second place in the Wessex Bowls League Eastern Region Division.
The Vale beat Rivermead 80-66 and added 12 points to take them clear of third-placed Carterton.
They now face struggling Chipping Norton and Swindon Manor in their last two matches as they look to confirm the runners-up slot in the league.
The Vale played a friendly against Thameside Wanderers last Saturday and managed to win 151-136.
The winning rinks were skipped by Ian Laming (18-12), Ray Ogg (24-11), Paul Knowles (21-19) and Mick Jones (22-13).
Fred Goddard beat another Vale team making up the numbers, skipped by Frank Fuller, 25-13, with John Holmes managing a 17-17 draw.
The two losing rinks were Brian Ambler (30-8) and Jim Rainbow (21-16).
Vale’s next friendly is on Monday against Bromley.
