NORTH Hampshire Road Club held their annual awards night at Bishopwood Golf Club, celebrating the its success in time trials, road racing and cyclo-cross during the 2014 season.

The evening was well attended, with over 29 trophies being awarded to 17 different prize winners.

Phil Watts was the men’s best all round performer, bagging an amazing eight trophies for circuit and shorter distance races as well as claiming a new men’s 100-mile time trial record.

Mandy Hibberd was ladies’ best all-round perfomer, claiming club records at 10, 25 and 100 mile distances, as well as the being the first club lady to ride a gruelling 12-hour time trial.

Also flying the flag for the ladies was Sarah Barber, who won this year’s Magnicat Cup, voted for by the club membership, for cycling endeavours.

Barber recorded a superb podium finish as second lady overall in last year’s iconic 3 Peaks Cyclo-Cross race.

The race took place across the highest peaks in Yorkshire, attracting over 700 entrants, and is arguably Britain’s toughest cyclo-cross race.

Maggie Smith was voted Club Lady of the Year for her sterling work behind the scenes organising and timekeeping the club’s 30 or so weekly time trial events across the season.

The finale of the night was the enrolment of Tom Ellis as a life member of the club. He was also voted Clubman of the Year for his regular time trial pushing-off duties and encouragement of riders across the year.

In addition, Ellis had a new 24-hour time trial trophy named after him. He is the current record holder for this event, with a distance of 424.34 miles set in 1977.

The trophy was donated by Jonathan Hobby, who also had a successful year, breaking the 12-hour club record on his second attempt last season.
