ADVENTURE AS went to Frobury Farm on Sunday last, and it was Steve Palmer who did the business in a tight match, topping out with 50lb 4oz of carp on pole and corn.

Scott (Meatloaf) Nelson made second place with 49lb 12oz of carp on pole and punched bread.

Fred Gill came next, netting 36lb 8oz of carp using pole and pellet, with Sean Shiles rounding up the scores on 33lb 12oz of carp using pole and corn.

Twenty-seven anglers participated but some did not weigh.

Kennet Ospreys went to Gold Valley for their latest fixture, and the venue’s syndicate lake proved a tough nut to crack.

Mark Parsons sorted it best with two carp and one bream for 26lb 10oz caught on the method feeder and dead red maggots. Evergreen Pat Hollies targeted bream and was rewarded with eight of them, all falling to the groundbait feeder and weighing an even 18lb.

Local tackle dealer Bartosz Recki caught two carp late on and weighed 14lb 10oz, while club treasurer Brian Baker banked one carp and one bream for 6lb.

Fifteen fished and six blanked on a very patchy venue.

Camrose AC went to an iced over Old Barlows Lake, Tadley, on Sunday last, and it was Paul Hunt (Abigail’s dad) who returned to winning ways with one bream and bits on pole and pinkie for 4lb 10oz.

Terry Bowles took second place with one carp and bits on pole and pellet for 4lb 7oz. Ralph Sneddon’s 3lb 7oz was one carp on pole and bread, while Bill Atkinson landed two carp on pole and maggot for 2lb 13oz.

Ten fished and surprisingly all caught.

Basingstoke Railway piscatorials fished a frozen New Barlows Lake at Tadley on Sunday last, and to say it was a grueller would be an understatement.

The biggest cheer of the day was reserved for Mick Brown, who had a bite and caught a small roach, his first catch in 12 hours of fishing.

Lynn Matthews put the men to shame, topping out with several roach for 10oz, yes 10oz, on pole and maggot.

Brian O’Donnel caught five roach for his 5oz on pole and maggot. “Marathon Man” Mick Brown made third with his one roach for 2oz, again pole and mag. John Hooley and myself tied for fourth spot with 1.5oz each, and that was that.

Twelve fished and eight wished they hadn’t.

Camrose are at New Barlows this coming Sunday. Adventure will be at Court Farm, while Ospreys are going to Greenridge Farm.

I am going to Tenerife – I know who will be warmest.

The highlight of my week, apart from ’er indoors falling over a broom while putting the wheelie bin out, was Ospreys’ chairman Mo Parsons telling me that his ’er indoors had taken to her bed with a bug, leaving him to do the ironing, tidy the house and cook the dinner.

Just another example of how outrageously inconsiderate our other halves can be.

Catch me in a fortnight.
