BASINGSTOKE Bullets Roller Derby League team are looking for some new female skaters to join their team.

They currently have skaters from Andover, Basingstoke, Winchester, Newbury and Reading and are on the look-out for some more ladies over the age of 18 to join them.

If you cannot skate, do not worry – there is a dedicated team of coaches ready to help and take you though the skills needed to become a fully fledged derby skater.

There is also a free trial session to give the sport a go and skates and |protective gear can be hired at £3.

The next session is at the Basingstoke Sports Centre on Saturday, January 31 (4pm to 5.30pm).

Roller derby is a fast-paced, full contact all female sport on quad roller skates.

The sport was revived in Austin, Texas in 2000 and England were silver medallists in the World Cup in November last year.

If you are interested in seeing the sport live, there is a chance as the Basingstoke Bullets are hosting their first public bout of the season.

This takes place at the Andover Sports Centre this Sunday. Doors open at 1pm and the cost is £6.50 on the door or £5 in advance.

To book a place for a taster session at the Basingstoke Sports Centre or a ticket for the first bout in Andover email freshmeat@basingstokebullets.co.uk For more information on the team, go to their website basingstokebullets.co.uk.
