ALEX Stock celebrated his England debut by winning a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Taekwondo Championships held in Edinburgh.

Following his success in winning gold at the British Taekwondo National Championships in Manchester earlier this year, Stock, a member of Bluewave Korean Martial Arts, was selected to represent England in the cadet under-61kg division at the Commonwealth Championships.

Stock made it all the way to the semi-finals, where he came up against Constantinos Mavrommatis from Cyprus – a bronze medallist at this year’s Cadet World Championship.

Stock took Mavrommatis the full three rounds, losing narrowly on points to the eventual gold medal winner.

This is a great achievement for Stock and is a reflection of the hard work he has put in over the last few months.

He is now looking forward to more success in 2015.

The Bluewave club, based in Priestley Road, also had master Gerry Reilly at the Commonwealth Taekwondo Championships.

Reilly was proud to be invited to attend as a Poomsae Judge, one of only six judges from Britain.

He judged for two full days and had the pleasure of covering not only the traditional divisions but also freestyle and the divisions for para athletes.

The championships proved to be a great success and a wonderful experience for both Stock and Reilly.
