BASINGSTOKE tumbler Megan Kealy has had a triumphant return from an injury that ruined her season last year, being crowned world champion.

The tumbler was selected for the World Age Group Championship in Bulgaria in 2013, but sustained a broken foot during her time there.

Her journey to this year’s World Age Group Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida, started at the British Championship in Coventry.

This was the first trial for the worlds and she faced girls taking on tumbles with higher skill difficulties, but they could not match her neatness of execution.

It proved a great competition as she was crowned British champion, beating the reigning world champion on the way.

In the second trial at Lilleshall at the end of September, the Basingstoke tumbler assured her place at by coming third.

Having arrived in the Sunshine State to compete in the 13 to 14 women’s category, Kealy did very well in qualification for the finals, finishing with the best combined score – 63.4.

The final was a single run and so the pressure was on even more, the Basingstoke tumbler competing last due her qualification score.

Kealy nailed the run and a score of 31.6 saw her take the gold and end a triumphant return for the teenager.
