TEENAGERS Maddie Deadman and Bradley Sutton won medals at the British Modern Biathlon Championships held in Solihull.

Aldworth Science College pupil Deadman won the under-15 girls’ event with a combined score of 2,459. She finished fifth in the swim, but won the one-mile run by 18 seconds – setting a new personal best of five minutes and seven seconds.

Deadman was one of six members from the Wessex Wyverns Modern Pentathlon Club who competed in Solihull.

Costello Technology College pupil Cameron Coveney was placed 11th in the under-12 boys’ section, while Sherfield School pupil Tayla Wegg was 13th in the under-14 girls’ age group.

Bishop Challoner School student Rebecca Poole finished 18th in the under-15 girls’ category, while Cat Coveney was sixth in the women’s masters, and Andy Poole and Mark Cornwell took part in the Masters Men category.

Brighton Hill Community School pupil Sutton came second in the under-17 boys’ category with 2,463 points.

The 16-year-old continues to go from strength to strength in preparation for the Great Britain Youth Ranking competitions and the first bout of international tetrathlons as an under-19 early next year.

His 15-year-old younger sister Jessica Sutton, a pupil at Brighton Hill Community School, finished 23rd in the under-15 girls’ event.
