ODIHAM hockey star Alex Danson ended up being taken to hospital, during England’s opening Women’s Champions Trophy 2-1 loss to Australia, in Argentina on Saturday.

The 29-year-old England captain was forced out of the contest in the first quarter.

This was after she took a heavy hit to the head, after she fell into Australian Anna Flanagan.

She left the pitch and was talking in the dugout, but soon after felt ill and was then taken on a stretcher to hospital, which delayed the start of the second quarter.

The forward was released later the same evening and returned to the England camp.

The game itself saw Jodie Kenny’s powerful drag, from a late penalty corner won the game for Australia 2-1.

The same player had opened the scoring in the first quarter, again from a penalty corner.

England level things, after Joie Leigh’s long ball found Ellie Watton and her mis-hit shot trickled through the legs of the Aussie goalkeeper.

England play their next group game against Germany today, which has a start time of 7.30pm.
