THE annual general meeting of the Basingstoke Chess Club was held last week with a good attendance present.
The three executive officers, chairman John Shaddick, secretary Joe French and treasurer Peter Beldaus, were unanimously re-elected.
The club have entered teams into the Berkshire League, the Border League and the Southampton League.
The junior prizes were awarded on the evening to Bernard Cooke at under-16 and to Adam Smith at under-nine.
In Southampton League Division Five, Basingstoke B continued their quest to get into the promotion places with a 4-0 victory at Fareham C, thanks to wins for Paul Vanlent, Alan Willis, Joe French and David Graham.
The league are currently scanning the record books to see whether the combined age total of 160 in the board three match between Joe French (79) and Syd Eva (81) is a record.
Basingstoke Chess Club meet every Wednesday from 7 to 10pm at the Bridge and Chess Club, Maydene, in Sherborne Road.
New members are very welcome and the evening fee is £1.50, which includes a tea or coffee.
