ADVENTURE’S match at Greenridge Farm last Sunday turned out to be a low scoring affair by the venue’s usual standards.

Rob Gallagher topped out with 53lb 8oz of carp on pole and corn. Kevin Smith used pole and meat for his 43lb 12oz.

Roger Sargent put pole and maggot to good use for his 43lb 8oz, whilst Graham Spiller’s 42lb made the frame. All 16 caught at the venue.

Kennet Ospreys’ latest match at Whatmore Farm saw Mark Funnel steam to a win with 93lb 12oz of carp on the slow-sinking waggler and pellet. Simon Couling’s 59lb 14oz of carp fell to a similar method.

Graham (Shaggy) Shadwell put 53lb of carp in the sack again from the same means, whilst Ian Jones (don’t mention the lost pole sections) did a bit of everything for 41lb 8oz. Out of 15 who fished, one failed to catch.

Camrose were at Cove Pit for their latest match, and Colin Thomas did the business with 126lb of carp on pole and dead red maggot.

Bill Atkinson put 118lb in the sack to claim second spot using pole and pellet, while Brian Orchard’s 99lb came next followed by Paul Bassinder’s 88lb.

Last week Camrose AC went to Old Barlows Lake, where Brian Orchard caught 24lb 8oz of carp on pole and pellet.

Pete Morris came second with 7lb 8oz, followed by Bill Atkinson on 7lb 4oz and Pip Seeny with 5lb 10oz. In total 10 fished and all caught.

Adventure went to Court Farm Aldermaston for a match and Mark Blackmon put in an atomic performance to win with 110lb of carp on pole and pellet.

Gallagher cruised into second place with 95lb 12oz of carp, again on pole and pellet, whilst Mick Fordham felt he had wasted his peg by weighing 80lb 6oz.

Dave Butler fell out to fourth spot with 78lb 14oz. All 20 who fished had a blast.

Ray Shepherd won the Kennet Ospreys’ match at Dandyslane last Sunday week, with 109lb 8oz of carp caught up in the water on pole and pellet.

Steve Hunt put pole and corn to good use for his 79lb 8oz. Tomasz Wojcik made fourth with 46lb 4oz.

There is a new retail outlet for anglers in Basingstoke called Bato Baits at the Basepoint Business Centre, Stroudley Road.

Initially, all forms of ground baits, pellets, maggots, castors and worms will be sold, plus terminal tackles.

Ultimately, I am told the business will go mainstream, once a customer base is established. Rod and pole repairs are also part of the business.

Lets hope that out of small acorns etc, etc.

One nice touch this week that restored my faith in the minefield of commercialism was that Tadley Angling’s Lynn Roberts wished Bato Baits good luck.

Catch me next week.
