BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club’s ladies continued their winning start to the season with a 2-1 win at Southampton.

The visitors dominated from the start and Basingstoke came close to scoring when Catriona Bausor, pictured left, broke through the Southampton defence and delivered a cross which Fi Parker was just unable to get on the end of.

Bausor broke the deadlock early in the second half, beating two Southampton defenders before slotting home.

Southampton equalised from a short corner but the visitors hit back and, from a well- drilled short corner with virtually the last hit of the game, Bausor managed to deflect home Scarborough’s strike.

The second team also enjoyed success with a 2-0 win at home to Portsmouth and Southsea.

In the first half, a break down the right by Julia Burnett and Tanya Finch saw the ball injected into the D for Gilly Dunning to score.

After the break, the home side added a second goal through Helen Hornsby.

The ladies’ over-35s lost on penalty flicks to Andover after their England Masters Cup game had ended 0-0 on Sunday.

In the men’s section, the fourth team continued their streak of good form with a 2-1 win away against Havant – Eliot Boyd and Phil Stewart scoring second-half goals.

In the junior section, the under-12 girls travelled to Aldershot and Farnham to play in a seven-a-side hockey festival.

Basingstoke lost their first two games, 2-0 to Fareham and 1-0 to Petersfield.

In their next match goals from Connie Jones and Florence Pattenden ensured a 2-0 victory over the host club.

Megan Fergusson, Ella Williams, Sophie Davenport and Thaisa Crewe Read all contributed to the goals by tackling from their own half and pushing up with great strength.

The last match saw 1-1 draw against Alton, as Davenport scored a fantastic equaliser.
