BASINGSTOKE Blizzards maintained their 100 per cent start to the Wessex Basketball League campaign with a 75-66 win at Farnborough Phantoms.

The home side started the better and only Blizzards’ new young point guard Ben Tauro able to find the basket in the first three minutes.

The Phantoms took a 25-16 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Andreas Antoniou and Tom Mavronicholas’ efforts meant that the Blizzards only trailed 39-34 at half-time.

After the break, Rob Gerrard, who scored 36 points, found his range and one of his three pointers gave the visitors the lead and another three points from Doug Awad made it 57-55 going into the final quarter.

The Phantoms re-took the lead, but from then on the visitors dominated to win 75-66.

They are next in action at home on November 18, when Craftsman visit Queen Mary’s College (tip-off 8.25pm).
