BASINGSTOKE powerlifter Jean Maton is celebrating after claiming a quartet of gold medals at the World Masters Powerlifting Championships.

Maton travelled to Pilzen, in the Czech Republic, for the event, where she competed in the Masters Two (athletes aged 50 and above) 84kg class.

It was a comfortable victory for Maton, who squatted 170kg, bench pressed 112.5kg and deadlifted 180kg for a winning total of 462.5kg, claiming a gold medal for each performance. She attempted a personal-best bench press of 120kg, but the lift was ruled out on a technicality.

Maton’s performance also helped the British team to third place behind the USA and France in the Masters Two team competition.
