WINKLEBURY darts ace Mark Petchey was a double winner at the Tribute and Memorial Darts Competition, claiming victory in both the singles and doubles.

In the pairs event, it was fourth time lucky for Petchey, who had been beaten in the final the previous three years playing alongside Ian Axford.

This year, Petchey and new partner Ricky Cull enjoyed a 3-0 victory in the final, beating Bob Fletcher and Rob Bruce.

Petchey went on to make it a double by winning the singles event, beating Shadwell 4-1 in the final.

Both finals were held on the main stage at Basingstoke Railway Club, with British Darts Organisation referee Nick Rolls acting as the master of ceremonies.

The events used to be called the Brian Fox Memorial Singles and Bob Anderson Senior Memorial Doubles, but were renamed as it became clear that many of the participants had never met neither man. Instead, organisers John and Tracey Bartlett decided to make the event a tribute to all those who have passed away.

In addition, rather than giving out prize money, all proceeds were donated to charity, with a total of £687.50 raised for the Heart of Darts, Cats Protection League, Clic Sargent and MacMillan Cancer Support. As well as entry fees, money was also raised through a raffle and a 21 dart challenge organised by Axford and won by Waite.
