ALDWORTH A got their Basingstoke and District Table Tennis League Division One campaign off to a good start with a 7-3 victory away at Alpha.

Ed Slot, beaten just once in 43 sets last season, was on top form again, while Amy Blagbrough won two sets.

Queens A had a nervy opener against KG A, with Tony Palaczky securing his maximum in the last set of the match against Dave Kimberley and a 6-4 win for his team.

Queens B beat Minitec B 7-3, with Fallon Thompson winning all three of his sets, while Hannington’s A and B teams drew 5-5.

Defending champions St Peters A began their campaign in week two, beating Aldworth A 7-3 despite another maximum from Slot.

Winklebury beat Queens B 8-2, with Malcolm Cummins and Andrew Snellgrove both winning all of their sets, while Yeqin Zeng was the star for KG A, winning three sets as his team came from behind to draw with Alpha.

In Division Two, Oakley A hosted Queens E. The visitors made a fast start and while they were pegged back, they won the last six sets to record a 7-3 victory.

Queens E went on to beat Aldworth C 7-3 the following week, with Robin Burns and Tommy Wan maintaining their unbeaten records to take their team to the top of the table.

KG B claimed a 6-4 victory over Queens C, with Phil Ware recording a maximum, while Minitec and Queens F drew and Aldworth B beat AWE A 6-4.

The following week, St Peters C began their campaign with a 6-4 defeat at home to Aldworth B, while Minitec enjoyed a 7-3 win over Queens D.

Three of the five Division Three fixtures on opening day ended in draws. Queens H and Portals could not be separated, and neither could Pegasus and Aldworth D or Aldworth E and Queens G.

KG C lost 9-1 to BHS Table Tennis but there was a first win for young Phil Russell in his first league match. However, BHS look the side to beat after hammering Queens G 9-1 the following week, Prashanth Devarajappa not dropping a single game.

Portals drew for a second week running, holding relegated Oakley B, while Pegasus beat Queens I 6-4 to move up to second in the table.
