TADLEY’S Charlotte Huddart competed in the Junior International Shooting Competition at Bisley.

It was Huddart’s first competition representing the Great Britain Junior Target Rifle Squad and she achieved a personal best score in the 3 x 20 (three-position) sporter rifle match.

The Hurst Community School pupil joined the Great Britain Junior Target Rifle squad in January this year.

The 14-year-old trained hard for the competition, which included under-21 teams from South Africa, Germany, Denmark, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Republic of Ireland, the Isle of Man and Jersey.

Target rifle shooting requires good body strength and mental discipline.

Huddart said: “The ranges can be very noisy with people chatting and moving around.

“You just have to learn to block everything out and concentrate on making your next shot your best shot.”

The 14-year-old is working towards a number of competitions taking place during the next few months. Her main targets are the Surrey Open in November and the British Open in February 2015.

Huddart trains regularly with the Basingstoke Air Rifle and Pistol Club and the Hampshire Scout Rifle Club together with the Scouts National Shooting Squad and the GB Junior Target Rifle Squad.

Her goal is to become a medal winner in Sporter Rifle matches.
