THREE north Hampshire American Football players – Courtney Goodall, Matthew Williams and Joseph Warriner – are one step away from being crowned 19-and-under national champions with the Farnham Knights Junior team.

Oakley’s Goodall, Overton’s Warriner and Fleet’s Williams, who attends Queen Mary’s College, played their part in the Knights’ 46-6 semi-final victory over Scottish side Lanarkshire Longhorns.

The victory sets up a clash with the London Blitz on finals day at the Doncaster Stadium on Saturday, September 20.

This will see the two sides, each seeded number one in their side of the draw, clash in what should be a super showdown.

In the victory over the Longhorns, Goodall, one of the team’s captains, played offence and defence. He scored two touchdowns, one from an inception, as well as taking two catches for 67 yards.

Williams, who also plays in both departments, had six carries for a total for 47 yards.

Overton’s Warriner, who plays just on the offence, had one carry in the game for a number of yards.

In the quarter-final game, they enjoyed a massive 52-0 victory over the Colchester Gladiators.

The Surrey outfit completed their regular season with an impressive record of 9-1-0, which earned them home advantage in the last eight and semi-finals.

The final game in their South East Conference campaign saw them thump Bournemouth 70-0, with Williams picking up the Knights’ most valuable player award in this game.
