BASINGSTOKE Wolverines enjoyed great success at Blackpool International Cheerleading Coalition Summer Jam.

The club entered six divisions and picked up a trophy in every single one.

They won two, claimed one second place, two thirds and a fourth.

There was success in all three categories for the senior teams.

The Panthers swept all before them as they won by 20 points to take the Senior Level One Cheer title.

The club’s Senior Level Three Group Stunt also collected a first place by an amazing 20-point cushion.

The Jaguars came second in the Senior Level Two Cheer, while the Kitts were third in the Youth Level One Cheer and the Bobcats also finished in the same spot in the Youth Level Two Group Stunt. The Vipers were fourth in the Junior Level Two Group Stunt.

The Cheer teams are made up of squads of over 10, while the group stunt teams have just five girls and all are trained and coached by Ali Lee.

Mandy Stait, programme manager of the Wolverines, said: “We hoped we would do well in Blackpool, but to do so well across the board was just amazing.

“We are not about pom poms, for our girls it is a mixture of dance, gymnastics and tumbling, and anyone can get involved. Our oldest member in the teams is 37 and our youngest is three.”

The club trains on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 4.30pm until 9pm at Aldworth School.

Stait added: “We are always looking for new members to come and join us.

“Cheer is all about the girls being part of a team and enjoying themselves as well as having fun.

“It is great to see the confidence they get from taking part in competitions.”

The Blackpool event was the last competition for the Wolverines this season. They are now focussing on next year, with their first outing likely to be in January.
