TADLEY Calleva suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Hellenic League Premier Division side Highworth Town in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup.

The visitors had the better of the early exchanges and took the lead as ball over the top from Calvin Kalinga saw Brett Denham net his third goal in two games.

After the break, Tadley pressed for a second, but Highworth levelled things, when a cross cum shot from Fabian McCarthy was taken in by the wind and then Tom Cole gave the home side the lead.

Tadley went looking for an equaliser with Scott Kinge, Danny Vickers and Denham all had chances.

Then in the final minute, Spencer Barlow was dismissed for a very harsh handball, as he was pushed from behind and fell forward scooping the ball up in the process.

A disappointed Tadley boss Danny Dolan said: "I felt we were the better side in the game, but we now have to ger back to focusing on the league as I want us to make a good start. Saturday will be difficult as Hythe and Dibden are our hoodoo team.

"It will be nice to play on our new relaid pitch at Barlow's and I think it will suit out football."

Kick-off on Saturday is 3pm and then three days later they are away at Andover New Street also in the Wessex League Division One.
