TADLEY Calleva gave Wessex League Division One leaders Portland United an early scare on Saturday, but the table toppers were too good in the end, running out 4-2 winners.
Brett Denham gave home side Tadley an eighth-minute lead, but Portland then scored three goals to take control.
The hosts refused to give in and Ryan Stephens' header made it 3-2 before half-time, but Portland added a fourth in the second half to move five points clear at the top of the table.
Tadley sit 14th, having taken four points from their first five games. They travel to 10th-placed AFC Stoneham on Saturday.
