WHITCHURCH United will not be embarking on a Hampshire Senior Cup run this season, but their FA Vase campaign is off to a winning start.
The Jam Boys were knocked out of the county cup last Wednesday, losing on penalties to US Portsmouth, but a 3-0 win over Hamworthy United saw them progress in the FA Vase on Saturday.
Taurean Manders scored Whitchurch's goal in their 1-1 draw with US Portsmouth. With the scores level after 90 minutes, the tie was decided on penalties and it was the navy side, who play their league football a division below the Jam Boys, who progressed, winning the shoot-out 3-2.
However, Whitchurch fared much better in the FA Vase on Saturday, with Danny Phillips finding the net twice and Manders also getting on the scoresheet as they beat fellow Wessex League Premier Division side Hamworthy.
The win sets up a home tie against Bournemouth Poppies, who also play in the same division, at the start of next month.
The Jam Boys return to league action tomorrow night, making the short trip to local rivals Andover Town.
