WHITCHURCH United did not get off to the start they would have wanted in the Wessex League Premier Division, losing 2-0 at home to Lymington Town on the opening day.

The hosts played some good football throughout the game but found themselves on the back foot after conceding an early goal.

Both sides were reduced to 10 men before half-time, Whitchurch's Jack McCarthy and the visiting goalkeeper both seeing red after an altercation, while Lymington doubled their lead just before the break, Zachary Mouland scoring his second.

The hosts looked to get back into the game in the second half, but they were unable to find a way through.

The Jam Boys will be hoping to fare better tomorrow night, when they will be the first visiting side to play at newly-formed Salisbury.
