WHITCHURCH United sprang a surprise by knocking Southern League outfit Fleet Town out of the Hampshire Senior Cup with a 4-1 win at Longmeadow last night.
Wessex League high-flyers Whitchurch were under pressure for much of the first half but managed to score two goals before the visitors replied to make it 2-1 at the break.
The Jam Boys struck twice more in the second half to wrap up a famous victory, with Scott Hassell, Jamie Mansell, Jack McCarthy and substitute Lerone Plummer all on the scoresheet.
Tadley Calleva were also in county cup action last night, running Sholing, another Southern League side, very close before making their exit.
James Tennant's goal had visiting Tadley ahead after 40 minutes, but Sholing struck twice late on to reach the fourth round with a 2-1 win.
