HARTLEY Wintney’s eight match unbeaten run came to an end after a below par display at Aylesbury saw them lose 2-0.

The Row experimented by playing Adam New as striker with Dean Stow moving back to central defence.

The Row were aided by a strong wind in the first half but fell behind after less than two minutes.

Jeanmal Prosper picked up a loose ball some 25 yards from goal and with the Hartley defence slow to close him down. He unleashed a fine drive which found the corner of the net. (1-0).

Three minutes later, Adam Everiss and Paul Hodges combined well but the parting shot from the latter was deflected wide.

Hartley stayed on the front foot and on nine minutes Jack French set up Paul Hodges who saw his effort go wide.

The Moles responded and on 11 minutes left winger Harry Scott did well to create space for a shot which was pushed around the post by Paul Strudley.

Despite being against the wind the home side had a good spell and on 19 minutes Harry Scott set up Prosper who saw his effort deflected wide.

The Aylesbury young debutant goalkeeper Isaac Richmond had little to do in the early stages of the match with the Row over hitting balls forward with the wind and guilty of many misplaced passes.

However a chance arrived on 30 minutes, when an Everiss cross found the head of New and his effort was narrowly over.

The Row followed this up with a good spell and several chances arrived.

First Adam New and Hodges combined to give Jake Baxter a chance and his effort brought the first save from Richmond. From the rebound Baxter had a second chance but shot wide.

On 40 minutes, the Row had their best chance when Everiss and Paul Hodges got behind the home defence.

Everiss wasted the opportunity by shooting wildly wide of the goal. Just before the break New managed to head down a corner to Liam Eagle who blazed over from 10 yards.

There was still time for the Moles to have a chance when Ty Deacon set up Brian Haule who brought out a good save from Paul Strudley. The first chance of the half came to the Moles from a free kick some 25 yards from goal.

Aston Goss took the kick and Strudley did well to dive full length and push the ball around the post. From the corner Hartley were unable to clear and Harry Scott’s effort from the edge of the box saw Strudley again come to the Row’s rescue by tipping the ball over the bar.

On 55 minutes, home goalkeeper Richmond was called into action with a comfortable save from a Josh Webb effort.

The home side responded soon after, as Scott saw a strong drive deflected wide for a corner.

From the resulting left wing kick Prosper headed home at the near post to increase the Moles lead. Three minutes later, Hartley almost came back into the game when an Everiss left wing cross was narrowly missed by Adam New who collided with the post.

The young player required treatment but thankfully recovered.

The introduction of Steven Duff brought life into the Row and a series of crosses were not converted or were defended well by a well organised home side.

After the game joint manager Dan Brownlie said: “We created many chances and could have had six goals, but far too many of our players were off form today. All in all a very disappointing result.”

On Tuesday night, Hartley will hope to bounce back to winning ways when they are at home to Hayes and Yeading.
