HARTLEY Wintney battled bravely with 10-men as they crashed out of the FA Cup in the Forest of Dean, writes DAVID GRAHAM.

The Row played for almost an hour a man down against Cinderford and only lost out to the only goal of the game scored on 76 minutes.

Cinderford who scored seven goals in the previous week started strongly and the Hartley goal was soon under constant pressure.

The first six minutes saw the Foresters, prompted by striker Lewis Bamford, bombard the Hartley defence and several half chances were passed up.

On seven minutes Bamford showed great skill in getting past two Hartley defenders after controlling a long pass. However, with only Atkinson to beat he shot wide.

Hartley slowly began to get a foothold in the match and pressure came on the home goal from several long throws and a free kick. Hartley’s first real chance came on 21 minutes when a Steven Duff corner found the head of Adam New whose misdirected header found Steve Noakes at the back post. However, the Row defender was unable to direct his header on goal.

The visitors defence breathed a sigh of relief on 32 minutes when Cinderford’s danger man Bamford picked up a knock and was replaced by substituted Craig Norman.

However, the Row’s relief was short lived when on 39 minutes Dean Stow’s two footed challenge was met by a straight red card from referee Dan Flynn.

The home side started the second-half with substitute Norman stinging the palms of Atkinson on 49 minutes..

With a reply looking on the cards, Hartley had a chance on 75 minutes, following some slack play from the Forresters. Sam Argent managed to get possession and his strong shot across goal brought out a good save from Cameron Clarke.

However, minutes later Cinderford got the breakthrough. Good play from Dellan Morley-Lyne saw him get around the back of the Hartley defence and his cross was turned into the net from close range by Norman.

Hartley pressed forward in search of the equaliser and came close with just a minute left on the clock. A corner from Duff corner found the head of New who was just wide with his header.

The Row had more success on Tuesday evening in the Hampshire Senior Cup, smashing six past Brockenhurst to advance to the third round.

The host were 3-0 up by half-time with goals from James Tennant, Sam Argent and a Brockenhurst own goal.

After half-time ,Argent converted from the spot to make it four, before another own goal and Argent completing his hat-trick.

The Row will host AFC Dunstable on Saturday.
