THERE is a quiet confidence surrounding the Hartley Wintney camp as they head into FA Cup action this weekend.

With only one loss in the last eight games The Row have every right to be confident as they travel to Southern League Premier Division side Cinderford Town for the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.

After getting bragging rights over local rivals Basingstoke Town, and a narrow win against Kempston Rovers last weekend, joint manager Daniel Brownlie said he believes his team has the right mentality to come out on top.

Brownlie said: “We are always confident going into games. There’s no arrogance behind that or at least none intended, it’s learned behaviour knowing our quality and mentality towards challenges.

“What’s most exciting about this tie is how little either side know about each other. It just means we can focus solely on us.”

It is this knowledge of quality and strength in depth which the Row boss believes can help them take a step closer to making the first-round proper of the illustrious club competition.

The Row will be without midfielder Ian Jones for the trip as well as a few other absentees, but Brownlie said this is an opportunity for his side to prove how good their strength in depth is as a team.

He added: “There will be some changes made that are forced upon us and we may shuffle the pack to suit the way in which we want to play but it won’t be a knee jerk reaction from the weekend.

“We’ll need everyone to turn up, give it all they’ve got and hope it’s good enough. We’ve found a winning habit, a winning way, but that’s more to do with the character in our dressing room than it is to do with momentum.”

Brownlie admitted competing in the historic competition can sometimes act as a double-edged sword, as you always want to be a part of it, but for a side like The Row it is also an opportunity to gain some vital funds for the club, which the joint manager said can act as an extra incentive.

If Hartley come out on top this Saturday, it means they will only be two wins away from a potential tie against a Football League side.
