HARTLEY Wintney will be looking for a giant killing on Saturday, when they travel to the Camrose, to take on Basingstoke Town in the FA Cup first qualifying round.

This season, the Row have already beaten Brockenhurst 5-1 in this competition, but the last time faced the Dragons in the FA Cup they lost 4-0 in 2011, but in those days there was four leagues between the sides.

At the end of that season the Row won promotion to the Combined Counties League Premier Division, where they were champions for the past two season and so there is now only one league between the north Hampshire outfits.

Looking ahead to the game, joint manager Daniel Brownlie said: “Saturday is going to be another tough test, made harder as we picked up a few knocks on Monday. Paul Hodges is a serious doubt for the weekend. That said, we have faith in the squad to put in a performance.

He added: “We know and understand our role as the underdog but we want to ensure we give a good account of ourselves.”

Last Saturday, captain Sam Argent scored a hat-trick as Hartley beat visiting Hanwell Town 5-1.

The skipper took just 18 minutes to open his account and then added a second three minutes later. In a superb first half, fellow striker Hodges added Hartley’s third, before Hanwell pulled a goal back from a Michael Buckley penalty.

Hartley were still not finished as Adam Everiss made it 4-1 at the break.

Just a minute after the restart, Argent completed his hat-trick.

However, on Monday afternoon Hartley’s unbeaten start came to end as they beaten 3-0 at Marlow, but they still remain third in the Southern League Division One East table.
