HARTLEY Wintney will face Basingstoke Town in a mouth watering first qualifying round of the FA Cup on Saturday September 2.

This was after the Row booked their place last Saturday with a 5-1 victory over Brockenhurst.

Joint manager Daniel Brownlie said: “We’re really looking forward to this one. What a draw it is, incredible. It’s got to be one of the ties of the round.

“Basingstoke are a big club and are sure to be the favourites but we won’t make it easy."

Basingstoke boss Terry Brown said: “You wanted a home tie and they are going well at the moment and I except a tight game.”

Before Hartley can focus on a giant killing, they have the matter of two Southern League Division One starting with a home game against Hanwell Town and then on Monday they travel to Marlow.

Brownlie said: “We are looking forward to Saturday. It is nice to be back at our place having had two away games. We don’t know a great deal about Hanwell, but that gives an opportunity for us to purely focus on us.

“Every game in this league is going to be tough but that’s what you want, the boys are enjoying that. There is a ever increasing sense of urgency for the next game.”

Last Saturday at Brockenhurst the home side put in good display in the first 45 minutes as it finished 1-1.

Against the run of play, the Row took the lead on 22 minutes, after Adam Everiss' cross was handled and Argent slotted home the penalty.

Five minutes before the break, referee Adam Baker spotted a tug on a home player's shirt by Adam New from a corner and Will Tickle converted the resulting penalty.

Hartley took control of the game after the break as Stow’s corner was headed in by Argent and then the home side were reduced to 10 men.

Just after the hour Liam Eagle powered in a header off the underside of the crossbar from a Stow corner and two minutes later, the Row made it 4-1 from Stow’s 25-yard free-kick.

On 83 minutes, substitute James Tennant cut in from the right and fired an unstoppable left foot shot into the roof of the net.

Brownlie said: “The Brockenhurst game was a bit of a slow burner. Whilst the result looked impressive, the performance wasn’t the best. We had spells where we were impressive but over the 90 minutes it wasn’t consistent enough for my liking. That said, FA Cup is all about getting the result and that we certainly did.”

Hartley will entertain Brockenhurst again in the second round of the Hampshire Senior Cup.
