HARTLEY Wintney made it back-to-back league titles as they were crowned Combined Counties League Premier Division champions for the second year running.

This was after they drew 0-0 at Chertsey and saw them claim the title and promotion with five games to spare.

A delighted joint manager Daniel Brownlie said: “There is an overwhelming sense of accomplishment this year because it’s been a complete club effort.

“The heartache of not being promoted last year could have broken many, but the whole club both on and off the field rallied and everyone stepped up their game.”

“Whilst last season will always sit highly in our list of achievements with it being the clubs first championship in so many years and also Millers (Anthony Millerick) and my first ever, this year our impending promotion has generated an excitable and seemingly tangible atmosphere.

“It’s a great place to be. This years win doesn’t happen without last year though, that’s for sure.

Brownlie added: “The boys have done very well. To win one league title is difficult enough, some in fact most, go through entire careers without winning a championship, but to do it two seasons running is amazing.

“To stick together, to stay motivated, hungry and display an unwavering desire to win says a lot about this squad.

“We will add further quality over the summer but this group deserve and are ready to test themselves in the league above.
