HARTLEY Wintney were unable to over turn a 3-0 deficit, as they knocked out out of the Aldershot Open Cup beaten by visiting local rivals Camberley Town 3-2.

The Surrey side dominated the first 45 minutes as they scored three times, but after the break the home side were unlucky not to level things.

Andre Williams in his first start for the Row scored their opening goal and then Dean Stow set up a tense finale.

Hartley felt they should have had a penalty, but in the end they just came up short in the semi-final.

Joint manager Daniel Brownlie said: "It was a competition we wanted to win, there's no denying that so to lose it in the manner we did was a real shame.

"We gave them a 3-0 head start through a series of errors and we never really got started. We managed to pull a goal back through Andre Williams who earned a start after his impressive debut at the weekend."

He added: "We were frustrated with the way we played first half, fortunately we were much improved in the second half. We had plenty of chances, with Dean Stow converting one.

"We had two penalty shouts denied, one clear as day which was a real shame. We were buoyed by our second half performance and had Camberley on the ropes for the 45 minutes of the second half. It was just a shame we let ourselves down in the first half."

This weekend, the Combined Counties League Premier Division leaders return to focussing on the title ambitions with a trip to Chessington and Hook on Saturday and then entertain Farnham on Tuesday.
