HARTLEY WINTNEY returned to the top of the Combined Counties League Premier Division after a 4-2 victory over visiting Chertsey on Tuesday night.

The village side raced into a 3-0 as Steve Duff as he netted his own rebound and then Aaron Parfitt netted twice the first direct from a corner and the second from close range.

The visitors pulled a goal back, but Ross Cook made sure of the win as he was brought down as he tried to round the goalkeeper. The striker dusted himself down and scored from the spot to make it 4-1.

Chertsey netted a second, but it was not enough as the victory sent Hartley back to the top of the table.

They are level on points with Ashford, but have played three less games.

On Saturday Hartley face title rivals Camberley who are third seven points from the same amount of games.

Then on Tuesday night, the village side entertain Bedfont Sports.

Joint manager Daniel Brownlie said: "We're looking forward to Saturday. We were disappointed with our performance level when we played them last, so we're keen to put that right. For us though, it's just another game, it's the business end of the season now and every game has an importance to it.

"We spoke on Tuesday night about kicking on, we have the capabilities to get stronger, we showed signs of that against Chertsey.
