HARTLEY Wintney made club history as they booked their place in the fifth round of the FA Vase with a 3-1 victory over visiting Bradford Town.

A good crowd of 253 saw the visitors start brightly and striker Sam Jordan saw his effort go just past the post.

The opening goal arrived on 11 minute mark, as a cross from Jordan saw Elan Plummer scored from close range.

The home side took just six minutes to level things, as Sam Argent played a clever pass beyond the Bradford defence. Steven Duff raced through and shot low past the out rushing visiting goalkeeper.

After this a Aaron Parfitt corner saw Steve Noakes head just wide and then Adam Everiss fired just past the post after a great solo run.

Just before half time, Hartley had a let off when a long cross found Jordan, but he headed the ball over.

After the break, the visitors applied most of the early pressure and Jordan forced a good save from Craig Atkinson.

Then just after the hour mark the home goalkeeper was called into action and pulled off a good save from a deflected inswinging corner.

Hartley then took the lead in the tie after 75 minutes as Argent flicked on a good ball forward which allowed Ross Cook to run in on goal and he slotted home.

Hartley thought they had scored again on 84 minute mark, when Cook broke through the Bradford defence and dribbled around the goalie.

His shot from a tight angle looked as though it had crossed the line before a backtracking defender and goalie hooked it out, but the referee waved play on.

The visitors piled on the pressure for a late equaliser with their goalie coming up for a corner.

The tie was then made safe, well into added on time as a quick break from Cook saw him round the goalkeeper and send The Row into the next round.

The reward for Hartley's victory is a home tie in the last 16 against Hereford on Saturday January 30.

A delighted joint manager Daniel Brownlie said: "We controlled the game for the best part of 75 minutes and even in their spells, we limited their chances to shots from distance.

"Once again, we demonstrated a strong mindset coming from a goal down but with the quality within our squad we're always confident we'll create chances."

Brownlie added: "The Hereford draw is going to create a great occasion for the club, we obviously go into the game as well documented underdogs, but we are happy to play that part in the drama that unfolds."

Before they face Hereford, the Combined Counties League Premier Division leaders will hope to pick some points in the league starting at Guildford City on Wednesday, before they face AFC Hayes at home on Saturday.
