HARTLEY Wintney increased their lead at the top of the Combined Counties League Premier Division to five points after they beat Sutton Common Rovers 2-1 on Tuesday night.
Ross Cook in his first game for six weeks due to injury scored both the home side's goals.
Hartley had an early scare as a shot hit the inside of the post, but came back straight into the arms of goalkeeper Craig Atkinson.
The home side were then forced to make an early change as Steve Duff was replaced by Cook.
However, he opened the scoring after 23 minutes as ran onto a through pass from Toby Jannaway.
Three minutes later, Aaron Parfitt was the provider of a super pass as Cook added his second of the game The visitors replied to make it 2-1 at half-time.
After the break, Sam Argent was unlucky to see his shot come back off the post and then Cook thought he had scored his hat-trick with a header, but it was disallowed for offside.
This weekend, Hartley entertain Windsor, who they beat in the FA Vase, and then on Tuesday Chertsey will be the visitors as the village side look to further increase their lead at the top.
