SAM Argent hit a hat-trick as Hartley Wintney thumped local rivals Fleet Town 4-0 to reach the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.

The sides had drawn 1-1 at the Memorial Ground on Saturday, so Southern League outfit Fleet were strong favourites heading into last night's replay.

However, Hartley had other ideas and took the lead midway through the first half, Argent scoring at the near post from Steven Duff's cross following a fine run by Shane Hollamby.

Ross Cook doubled the lead on the hour, beating the goalkeeper one-on-one from Aaron Parfitt's through-ball, while Argent's diving header from Duff's fine cross put the tie beyond doubt soon after.

Argent completed his hat-trick late on, firing home from the free-kick after the Fleet goalkeeper had been penalised for handling a back-pass.

Hartley manager Daniel Brownlie said: "I am over the moon. We had a few players missing, but it shows the depth we have in the squad.

"We were the better side on the night. We were disappointed not to win on Saturday, but we made sure in the replay and it was a much-deserved victory."

Hartley will face Southern League Premier Division outfit Merthyr Town in the second qualifying round. That game will take place in south Wales next weekend, but before that, Hartley will be hoping to maintain their 100 per cent record in the Combined Counties League Premier Division when they host Chessington and Hook United on Saturday.
