HARTLEY Wintney bounced back to winning ways in fine style as they beat visiting Hanworth Villa 3-0 in the Combined Counties League Premier Division.

It was sweet revenge for the village side, who lost the reverse fixture 4-1, but never looked in trouble in this game as Sam Argent scored a brace and Luke Walker netted the other.

The plight of the visitors was not helped when sub Ade O’Shilrar was shown a straight red card as he kicked out at Craig Barker with 17 minutes to go.

Hartley were out of the blocks quickly in this game as they took the lead with a penalty.

The lively Argent won the spot kick as he was released by Tom Walsh’s throw-in and was then tripped by defender Steve Loveridge as he ran in from the left.

The striker dusted himself down and slotted into the bottom corner after just five minutes.

Another Walsh throw-in found player/manager Ben Dillon and his shot was cleared off the line by Jamie Miles.

The home side were dominating and Ian Jones fed Argent and only a great save by the legs of Hanworth goalkeeper Terry Buss denied him a second.

Soon after, a super strike from Walsh from over 20-yards out hit the underside of the bar and Barker went close with the rebound.

A lovely interchange between Dillon and Barker saw Argent’s deflected shot off Miles force Buss into a smart save.

A rare ball forward from Hanworth saw Noakes, a real rock at the back, took the ball off the head of Josh Hughes before he makes use of the ball.

Hartley went in at the break 1-0 up, but deserved to lead by more.

The game carried on in the same vein after the interval as a nice run from Argent saw Dillon fire just wide.

The home side made it 2-0 on 53 minutes after good build-up play from the impressive Elliott Hobden, Jones and Walsh, saw Barker’s shot blocked in the area by Miles, but the rebound fell to Argent to fire home.

The visitors then lost O’Shilrar to a straight red card, but soon after had their best chance of the game. However, Adam Brigent’s glancing header went wide of the target.

Hartley left their best goal to last as Argent played in Luke Walker and he produced an exquisite finish on the half volley.

Then in the final minute of the contest both home side subs Taylor Watts and Jack Green were denied by the visiting goalkeeper in quick succession.

After the game first team coach Dan Brownlie said: “I think we were very good today, especially our work rate off the ball. We should have had more goals, but I am happy with a 3-0 win.

“Elliott Hobden was our man-of-the-match today as he had the best performance I have seen him have in a Hartley shirt.”

Hartley are at home again on Saturday, when Mole Valley are the final visitors of the season.
