HARTLEY Wintney suffered FA Vase heartache at Highworth Town on Saturday, going down to a 2-1 defeat after extra-time.
The visitors were second best in the first half and trailed to a 32nd-minute goal at half-time. Hartley improved in the second half and created several chances, but they needed a Shane Hollamby penalty to draw level and force extra-time.
Jack Coventry thought he had put Hartley ahead in the extra period, but his goal was ruled out for offside, and Highworth grabbed a winner in the final minute.
The defeat was Hartley’s fourth in a row and followed a 4-2 defeat away at Chertsey in the Combined Counties League Cup last Wednesday.
Next up for Ben Dillon’s men, who sit 10th in the Combined Counties League Premier Division, is a trip to 14th-placed Horley Town on Saturday.
