OVERTON United were Andover Open Cup giantkillers on Tuesday night as the Hampshire Premier League outfit beat Wessex League Division One after a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

The tie having ended 1-1 and with one miss each Overton led 4-3 and Sean O'Brien saved the last penalty which gave them victory.

Before this Sammy Aldoori, Elliot Hobden, Perry Lock and Kirk Smith had all scored from the spot.

Earlier, in the contest, Overton turned in their best performance of the season and took the lead after 30 minutes when Hobden with a pass found Mick Judd and he then fed John Gurney who rifled the ball into the bottom corner.

It was no more than the 21-year-old deserved, who led the line really well.

Playing with the slope after the break, New Street levelled in added on time from a long ball, before Overton won the tie on penalties.

Manager Greg Restell said: "I am really pleased with the win and we will be tested on Saturday when we play leaders Bush Hill, but I am looking forward to it."

Last Saturday, in the league Overton drew 1-1 with visiting Liphook. Overton took the lead after 25 minutes as Gurney squared the ball for Judd to skip past the last defender and score.

Liphook really came at the home side after the break, but solid defending saw them concede just one.

Restell said: "I felt is was a fair result as we bossed the first half and they did the second."
