HARTLEY Wintney booked their place in the semi-final of the Aldershot Senior Cup with a 3-0 win at Knaphill.

The visitors took seven minutes to take the lead from a Paul Hodges and this is how it stayed to half-time.

After the interval, Hodges netted his second of the game and Dean Stow added a third before the end.

After the game joint manager Daniel Brownlie said: "We started the game well and created a great goal finished off by Paul (Hodges). He is not known for his heading ability, arguably known for his lack of it, but this was a great finish.

"We took our foot off the pedal after that, Knaphill will feel hard done by not to have gone into the break leading. Was it not for some fine saves from Chris Harris, they could have been out of sight.

Brownlie added: "In the second half it was a much more controlled affair with two second half goals from Stow and Hodges settling the win. It was far from a vintage performance, but we are pleased to be in the hat for the semi-finals."

"There were plenty of positives to take from the game, Hodges' goals, (Steve) Noakes returning with a full 90 minutes and Chris Harris' performance in goal. Knaphill are a good side with a good manager, so we are pleased with the win but we will have to improve to get anything out of Saturday."

This weekend, Hartley are back in Southern League Division One East action with a trip to promotion rivals Hayes and Yeading.

Then on Tuesday night, they have a trip to Hampshire rivals Fleet Town.
